About the Royal Oak
Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak in 1972. It was designed by Gérald Genta and made in steel at a time when luxury watches were almost always gold. Its octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws, its integrated bracelet and its "Tapisserie" grid-pattern dial set the template for the luxury sports watch.
Royal Oak sizes
33mm
The smaller Royal Oak, often quartz. It's a good choice for smaller wrists or as a dress watch, with the same design in a compact case.
37mm
A middle size with an automatic movement, such as the 15450ST. It wears well on a wide range of wrists.
39mm and 41mm
The larger Royal Oak sizes, including the slim 39mm "Jumbo" and the 41mm automatic and chronograph models. Ask us about upcoming stock if this is the size you want.
Royal Oak or Royal Oak Offshore?
The Royal Oak Offshore, launched in 1993, is the larger, thicker sport version, often a chronograph with rubber-clad pushers and a bolder dial. The Royal Oak is slimmer and more classic. Both use the octagonal bezel.
What to check on a used Royal Oak

Case and bracelet finishing. The Royal Oak alternates brushed surfaces with polished bevels. Over-polishing rounds the bevels and blurs the brushing, and only a full refinish by a specialist can restore it.
Bezel screws. Look for scratches or tool marks around the eight screws.
Dial. The Tapisserie pattern should look crisp and even under magnification.
Bracelet stretch. Integrated bracelets loosen over years of wear, so check how tightly the links sit.
Papers. Each listing states what's included. Audemars Piguet can issue an Extract from the Archives for some watches.
